Eager to reconnect with Michelson Runway’s Cohort 2, we set our sights for ASU+GSV 2018! This year’s convention was hosted at San Diego’s Manchester Grand Hyatt from April 16 – 18, where luminaries and innovators in higher education came together to learn and build the future of education.
Startup Camp
What better way to kick of ASU+GSV, than by enhancing our startups skills in marketing? Experts on marketing companies, Entangled Velocity prepared a day full of workshops that would enhance our nine startups skills.
Before attending the conference, the nine companies came together Sunday morning at Cooley LLP’s San Diego offices. With breakfast and snacks served on the table, the startups began to arrive; excited to learn from their mentors.
Casey Boyles, Director of Growth at Entangled Velocity explained, “We had the privilege of customizing instruction for each startup company that they could then use to reach their next significant milestone and take their business to the next level.”
Geoff Watson, President at Entangled Velocity and Chris Povio, Sales Partner at Entangled Ventures presented the “Scaling Sales and Marketing” workshop Monday morning.
“The most beneficial aspects about the workshop was going through the process of defining unique value propositions, positioning, and the ideal customer profile,” explained Fredric Mitchell, VP of Product at the Whether.
ASU + GSV Summit
The nine startups had the opportunity to attend the conference, sessions, and events from different companies. Some of these years featured speakers included: John Legend, Matthew McConaughey, Pamela Cantor, President George Bush, and President Vicente Fox.
“My biggest takeaway from ASU+GSV was simplicity in message,” said Fredric. “A lot of people are talking about the root causes of a lot of things. Being able to communicate your unique value in an easy to understand manner could be key when walking past someone for 15 seconds before dinner.”
From learning more about marketing to practicing their pitches to attending the three day conference, cohort 2 continued to engage and to grow closer amongst each other. It wasn’t all business, they also had the opportunity to have fun while enjoying some delicious tacos on night one, a friendly, yet competitive bowling night on Monday, and they even had the chance to board the USS Midway Museum battleship for Cooley’s event on Tuesday night.
Next stop San Francisco! We will reconvene with our nine amazing edtech startups for our 2nd Demo Showcase! Join us as they will pitch their ventures! RSVP here.
